Description: The Pro815 equipped with a 15X optical zoom with a focal length of 28 – 420mm [35mm equivalent], this means you can shoot from wide angle to telephoto with one lens. Normally it is not possible to incorporate both 28mm wide-angle and 420mm tele-zoom capabilities in a average high-end camera, since they generally, only come with a 7-8X zoom, With SLR systems, different lenses need to be switched to shoot wide-angle and ultra high zoom pictures, this means carrying lots of equipment, missing some shots due to lens changeover and buying multiple lenses. The Pro815 has four low-dispersion glass lenses specially manufactured to minimize chromatic aberration that can occur when wide-angle and ultra high zoom are supported at the same time. In addition it employs two aspherical lenses for the correction of spherical aberration and lateral colours for the entire zoom range from wide to tele. This world-renowned Schneider-KREUZNACH lens offers outstanding reliability.

Because of its large size, when you first get your hands on the Samsung Pro815, you’ll probably think you’re holding a full D-SLR. In fact, it’s a little bigger than some D-SLRs, such as the Canon Rebel XT and the new Rebel XTi. This camera has some great features, but when it comes to the nuts and bolts of taking photos, using it is a hit-or-miss experience.
Take, for example, shutter lag. In my image tests, I didn’t find all that much to be upset about, but in my real-world low-light tests, I noticed significant lag, especially when the flash was turned off.

Samsung officially announced its first SLR-styled digital camera, the Pro815, an 8 megapixel, 15x zoom model back in June, but it didn’t actually arrive until the late autumn. It’s targeted at enthusiasts and boasts a lot of ‘world firsts’ including the largest LCD on a digital camera (3.5 inches), world’s longest zoom on a high-end camera and world’s largest capacity lithium-ion battery. The Pro815 sports a Schneider-Kreuznach lens and boasts a color data LCD screen for waist-level shooting, 2.5fps continuous mode and a wealth of photographic features.

The Samsung Pro815 is equipped with a 15X optical zoom with a focal length of 28-420mm, this means you can shoot from wide angle to telephoto with one lens. The Samsung Pro815 is a remarkable camera for a number of reasons. First, its huge 15x zoom Schneider-Kreuznach lens is the most powerful on any non-SLR digital camera. Secondly, it also has the biggest monitor on any digital camera, with a massive 3.5in screen. Thirdly, it has the largest battery of any digital camera, with 1900mAh of charge capacity. And most remarkably of all, it’s a Samsung.
That may sound a little cruel, but until last summer most of Samsung’s digital camera output had consisted entirely of the Digimax range of compacts that, while often technically competent and always reasonably priced, have been at best uninspiring, and at worst shoddily made, poorly designed and lacking in performance.
