The C743 also features in-camera touch-ups like red-eye reduction, shot cropping, an ‘alert’ that warns of blurry photos, and the option to undelete photos you’ve accidentally wiped from the memory. The large 7.1 megapixel sensor will capture extremely fine detail in your shots, and also produce high-quality photo prints up to 15×20-inches.

Like most budget cameras, the C743’s feature set delivers just the basics. With a standard 3x zoom lens (37mm to 111mm-equivalent), a 30fps VGA movie mode, and a handful of image presets, the C743 bears all the standard features of a low-end point-and-shoot camera. Photography controls are predictably scarce, with only a few white balance and ISO selections and no advanced exposure settings. Fortunately, a handy in-camera editing program lets users crop and tweak their images after they’re shot. Finally, an optical viewfinder proves to be a welcome surprise on the budget shooter, offering an alternative to the camera’s slightly smaller than usual 2.4-inch LCD.

In our battery test, the camera lasted for 284 shots, which is about average and not bad considering that the camera runs on two disposable lithium ion AA batteries. To conserve battery power, you can frame shots using the camera’s optical viewfinder instead of the power-hungry LCD

The Kodak C743 has 13 scene modes to help beginners achieve the results they’re looking for without the need to understand subtleties like shutter speeds, apertures and the like. The C743 determines exposures with a center-weighted TTL metering system, and offers 2.0EV of exposure compensation in 1/2EV increments. Four white balance settings are available including an auto mode, and ISO sensitivity is controlled automatically or manually, ranging from 80 to 400.
