Ricoh releases the second firmware update - version 1.22 - for the R8 digital camera. This update should improve the accuracy of white balance. The first firmware update, released a month ago, provided improved accuracy of exposure at continuous shooting with full-press.
Ricoh releases its firmware with an unrivaled rate and I’m still puzzled whether this is a good or a bad thing, even more because firmware update can be a tricky process for the inexperienced user…

Tokyo, Japan June, 24, 2008 Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president and CEO: Shiro Kondo) has announced today the development and release of the GX200. The GX200 is able to reproduce high quality images from edge-to-edge with low noise and natural gradation. This camera succeeds the award winning Caplio GX100 compact digital camera introduced in April 2007.
The GX200 inherits the popular features of the GX100 such as a 24 to 72 mm (35 mm ?lm equivalent focal length) high-performance wide-angle optical zoom lens on a 25 mm thin pocketable compact body, a wide variety of manual shooting functions, and a removable tilting electronic view?nder. The new GX200 achieves increased resolution via its 12 megapixel CCD and dramatic noise reduction with the addition of the new image processing engine Smooth Imaging Engine III.
Already a popular part of the Caplio GX100, the high-resolution wide-angle lens unit has been further con?gured to enable picture taking at an even higher resolution.
With a large wide-viewing angle 2.7-inch 460,000 dots HVGA LCD and an electronic level function, for horizontal and vertical shooting, the GX200 contains extensive shooting functions to enable camera lovers to enjoy and create stunning photographs.
This model comes in two package types with different accessories. The GX200 package contains: rechargeable lithium ion battery, battery charger, AV cable, USB cable, CD-ROM, strap, and lens cap. The GX200 VF KIT package contains all the above accessories plus the electronic view?nder.
*The lens focal lengths used in this document are the equivalent focal length for a 35 mm camera.

The new G600 from Ricoh is a compact, water and dust-resistant, wide-angle, 5x zoom digital camera.
The G600 is designed for outdoor use and is claimed will withstand a 1.5 metre fall.
In addition to the 5x optical wide-angle zoom lens (equivalent to 28-140mm for a 35mm camera), the G600 offers a 1cm macro function and flash with a range of 10 metres.
Designed for "hard outdoor use", the camera is water resistant at depths of down to about 1m but it is also dust resistant so pictures can be taken in environments, such as the beach, as it will resist sand and dust.
It is also suitable for shooting in low light conditions offering ISO 3200 sensitivity.
Additional features include a 2.7-inch picture display, which has a light sensor which automatically adjust the display’s brightness based on ambient light level.
The camera measures 116.5 × 6 8 × 32mm and weighs 260 grams.
The G600 also has a lithium ion battery which delivers approximately 360 shots on one charge but if the battery runs out, AAA size batteries can be used instead.
The G600 will be available in May for £349.99.

Ricoh Co., Ltd. (president and CEO: Shiro Kondo) has developed and introduced the new R8 compact digital camera featuring a 7.1x optical wide-angle zoom lens (28-200 mm in 35 mm focal length), a high-resolution 10 megapixel CCD, and enhanced photography functions.
The new R8 combines a new 10 megapixel CCD with the popular Smooth Imaging EngineIII image processing engine of earlier models, to take high-definition photography to a higher level.
The R8 also offers various other enhanced capabilities for fun and easy photography, such as a large 2.7-inch, 460,000-pixel HVGA LCD and the same 1:1 aspect square format photography function that has proven extremely popular on Ricoh’s Caplio GX100 (launched April 2007) and GR DIGITALII (launched November 2007) models.
In addition to the specification improvements, the R8 has also undergone a complete redesign. This new model combines ease of use and technical specification in a body that is contemporary and stylish and has been designed based on the concept " a tool you will want to use every day".
In creating the R8 as a tool for taking photographs, great care has been given not only to styling and coloring but also to its operability, portability, comfort in hand, and its solid, high-quality feel.

Continuing its trend of pushing out evolutionary — rather than revolutionary — digital cameras, Ricoh has just introduced the new Caplio RR770, a model barely distinguishable from the now two-generations-old RR730. Just as the move from the 730 to the RR750 brought with it little more than a minor resolution bump, the 7.16 megapixel RR770 improves upon its predecessor by simply upgrading the LCD to a 3-incher — but retaining the ho hum 3x optical zoom and limited scene selections of Caplios past. Price and release are currently shrouded in mystery, but don’t expect to spend much more than $250 on this unremarkable shooter.
