Canon on Tuesday refreshed its photo printers with two additions to the SELPHY line. Just recently launched in Europe, the CP770 is designed to look accessible with a basket-like shape and a handle for owners to tote the printer around and make prints on vacations. A battery pack is available to run the printer for "hours," Canon says. The printer itself builds in a 2.5-inch preview LCD and outputs 300DPI, 4-by-6 inch prints in 52 seconds.
The CP770 connects to Macs and Windows PCs through USB but also supports direct printing from multiple card formats, PictBridge-supporting digital cameras, and phones with Bluetooth printing support courtesy of an optional Bluetooth adapter. Canon delivers the printer in May for $150 and supplies the battery pack for $80.
The simpler CP760 is designed more for use at home and offers the same print quality, LCD, and optional Bluetooth without the friendlier design or the choice of a battery pack. It likewise arrives this month and is priced at $150.

Hauling a full-sized printer has never been a viable solution for road warriors. A portable printer like the new Canon Pixma iP100 will sure come in handy. Canon has a long history making these mobile printers, so the 4.4 lb. iP100 could only be better if the engineers do their job right. The IP100 can print up to 9600 x 2400 dot per inch (DPI) resolution with speed about 14 ppm in color and 20 ppm in black. The black ink tank has been increased by 50%, reducing the risk of running out of ink during a last-minute project.
The $249.99 iP100 comes with all the interfaces you would expect on a mobile printer, including USB 2.0 and IrDA; and Bluetooth is yours for $49.99. PictBridge is available if you want to print directly from your digital camera or DV camcorder. The printer can also operate on battery, available as yet another optional accessory for $99.99, and on a 3-hour charge, it can last for about 290 pages. Lastly, for another $89.99, a automobile power adapter allows drawing electricity from a car’s 9V socket.

It’s been 20 years since Canon shipped the first film-based EOS 650 AF SLR, and although the camera industry has undergone some fundamental changes since, the EOS line remains as strong as ever. Canon announced today that it’s now shipped over 30 million EOS cameras, and over 10 million digital EOS units since launching those in 2000 with the EOS D30. With popular models like the XTi / 400D flying off shelves, it looks like we’ve got another 20 years to look forward to — congrats, Canon!
